Default BVWS Bulletin Winter

I'm not usually at home when this one turns up but here it is. The dedicated volounteer group who produce it report some necessary economies in order to combat the austerity that we are all facing but it seems well up to the usual excellent [glossy] standard to me!

I seem to recall some difficulty earlier in the year, with a few issues, getting damaged in the post. My main reason for posting is to say that, for the first time ever, mine arrived with the outside envelope fairly well shredded but basically together. I feared the worst but the mag itself is totally intact. This is not a complaint-overall I think that the Bulletin is sent out as well packed as could be expected.
Thanks all.

Mine also arrived this morning, unfortunately the posty folded it and the calender is well crumpled Looking forward to reading some of the contents of the mag, I spotted some items of particular interest.

ditto! and what is more annoying is that he could have opened the porch door and dropped it on the mat! Looks like a good read though - thanks!

Hello,

Very good read. I have passed my copy on to an 11-year-old friend of the family whose ambition in life is to become an inventor!

If the calendar or magazine is damaged please contact Mike Barker and ask for a replacement.

I believe the new postage arrangements mentioned will have polythene wrappers which should survive in the post better!

Please remember to complete the membership form (the yellow one) and send it back with your payment if necessary ASAP.

Mine arived with slight tear in the envelope, but all inside was sound. Paul, I have been very happy with the paper envelope, and hope that if there is a change to plastic we consider biodegradable options - plastic is polluting in production and disposal, not to mention there being a limit to oil supplies, and a lot of plastic bags would be involved. I believe there are biodegradable plastic envelopes.
Many thanks though for an excellent magazine to everyone involved.

I am not involved in the discussions but I will pass the environmental points on at the next committee meeting later this month, at which point we should know more about the change.

As an aside, remember that those plastic mailers, along with other plastic and polythene wrappers from household products can be recycled with carrier bags at larger supermarkets.

Mike Barker is ultra fast at replacement for damaged mags.

Just a point, would it be possible to rubber stamp the envelopes saying With Care Magazine or similar? Might stop the postie using the dreaded over tight elastic bands.

Hamish, I suspect stamping anything 'Fragile', or similar is a red rag to a bull. I think generally, and rightly, the attitude is that it is up to the sender to package the thing in a way it will be protected - in the case of a radio, double boxed. An item damaged, if under packaged, isn't really the fault of the handler, and if properly packaged, should arrive safely anyway. It sounds like the paper envelopes are just a bit light - but you can't really expect a postie to take items out and keep them to one side.
