Re: MURPHY DAY "GRAND TELEVISION DISPLAY" 18th September
Wow, that mirror-lid Murphy is a work of art inside. It looked like an excellent day, but unfortunately I was hard at work in Birmingham.

Re: MURPHY DAY "GRAND TELEVISION DISPLAY" 18th September
Hello Andrew,
Yes it's an A58V combined TV and radio. 1938. According to the Murphy News there were only 225 of these sets ever made. Mine has a cabinet number of 119 punched into all of the wooden parts. When you look carefully at the cabinets you can see that they were changed from being on some sort of woodeen legs or stand to metal legs. All of the screw holes remain in the base and an area not cellulose sprayed is visible. The metal legs enter the cabinet through roughly made holes in the base when you compare these to the holes cut for ventilation. I suspect the legs are due to the vast weight of this set being too much for whatever the first design consisted of. The original release of this set shows metal tubular legs, so I suspect it was an early factory change. Mike...

Re: MURPHY DAY "GRAND TELEVISION DISPLAY" 18th September
Thanks for the information Mike. It's certainly an interesting set to look at, almost like a piece of equipment from an old black and white science fiction film.
Regards_ Andrew
