Re: The new real: Ben Dijkman& Co website !
I think badge would be more "english" than emblem. Emblem or logo is perhaps more the symbol that is on the badge than the actual physical manifestation.
English is really sneaky- it's easy to get by in, but fiendishly difficult to be totally fluent in. Not least because it took words from so many different sources that there are usually several that mean the same (or worse- almost the same) as each other. EG- stream, beck, brook, rivulet..... Not to mention that the same word can have several different meanings- try "mole" for example.

Re: The new real: Ben Dijkman& Co website !
Perhaps? " Logobadge" is THE word for it??
If I hear "Badge" It instandly reminds me of these " Q bomb?, no thank you " or "Ms. Niles : salesmanager" logo's.... ~<{;^)X= But seriously:what is the best word for philips logo-badge? "earth" onn the backpanel of the radio is allso point of dicussion .... I think....... Last edited by Ben_Dijkman; 17th Mar 2010 at 12:51 am. Reason: language not correct written |

Actually, "logo-badge" sounds pretty good! I did wonder about "escutcheon" but that's probably more applicable to the dial rather than the maker's logo.
"Maker's nameplate" perhaps? A bit long winded, though.... I don't think "badge" has quite the negative connotations in "English" that you mention, though it may well do in "American".

"Logo badge" it's word now! ~<{[;^)X=
I have done a lot of work to improve "the English version" to my website. It's done as much as possible with two languages next to "on and other ": Dutch and English I'm curious about what English radiofriends here think of this system. Best regards , Ben Dijkman |

Re: The new real: Ben Dijkman& Co website !
Ben,
Your site is superb. Only one very trivial criticism. There are one or two english spelling mistakes. These really don't matter but perhaps you could run your texts through an (English) english spell checker. I spotted "becouse" instead of because and "Catalogus" instead of Catalogues. Thanks, Peter Gosh! Did I make any spelling or grammatic errors in this post? |
