Iranian radio collection
I came across this page in Fars News Agency's photo section.
See: http://www.farsnews.net/imgrep.php?nn=8901231299 They're all from an exhibition of old radios belonging to an Iranian collector - who appears in some of the pics, including the last one - no 16. The event was held in in the Iranian city of Esfahan in early April 2010. The captions are in Farsi I'm afraid, but there are Farsi/English labels next to some sets. Note photo no 3 - a Russian-made "oil-powered radio". Looks as if it's just a normal radio wired up to a thermo-couple from the lamp. Regards, Ian |

Re: Iranian radio collection
The artwork on those gramophone horns is lovely and I wonder how an A22 ended up in Iran especially in one piece?

Hi.
The A22 is definitely an export model (mw + 2sw). Alan |

Re: Iranian radio collection
He even has one of the kerosene thermocouple power supplies! He must have travelled a lot to assemble such a wide ranging collection! Fantastic, and thanks for the link Ian.

Re: Iranian radio collection
Before 1979, there were very good relations between Iran and Europe indeed the Western World and Israel in the Middle East.
The Shah wanted Iran (formerly Persia) to develop as a modern westernised Country and as such trade links between he West and Iran were good. Its citizens were free to travel all over the world. I remember from the early 1970's that planes from the US and Heathrow would stop in Israel en route to Tehran. Its was probably in those times that these sets were imported into Iran. |
