There are some four pin hall sensors on ebay but without any part number on the original its impossible to say if they are pin compatible.

All the Sony Beta machines of this era used the same sort of drum motor. The SL-C20, 30, 40, SL-F1 etc. Do you know that the sensors are not working? It is usually the glue that holds them in place that breaks down and becomes conductive. This shorts out the sensor. The only time I have had to replace a sensor is when I broke one of the leads while cleaning off the glue. I found a sensor that looked the same in an old 5 1/4 inch floppy disc drive. It worked, too.

You have removed the sensors, so must have cleaned off all the glue. Have you tried just replacing them and seeing what happens?

Mark.

Hi 8 Tracker,

When remove the glue from the sensor, the drum spin for few second.
It's the sensor. In the service of the SL-F30 i don't find any part number
of the Hall Devices.

A another question;

where is the brand or the model of the floppy drive,
you can find a compatible Hall IC?

Thanks at all.

Almost all floppy drives will have a hall sensor (or more) in them. They are often used as part of the spindle motor feedback on 5 1/4" drives and the index sensor on 3 1/2" drives is often a hall effect device. It should be reasonably easy to spot: the four-pin device close to the periphery of the flywheel. I used one from a scrap 3 1/2" drive to repair a 5 1/4" drive:

and it worked well enough. Four-terminal analogue hall effect devices are, as I understand it, little more than a lump of silicon in a plastic package, so they should be fairly interchangeable.

Thanks Jones.

It's possibile to find the Hall IC with the same package
of the Sony Drum Motor, on the disk drive?

Thank You,

Libra

Chris is quite right, almost any type of "pancake" (flat) motor in a disc drive will have one or more of these sensors in. I can't remember what brand or model of drive I removed them from, but they were exactly the same package as the ones from the head drum motor.

When the head drum starts up, does it just keep accelerating until it shuts down?

Mark.

The ones I've seen weren't in the same package, but it shouldn't be too hard to adapt whatever you've got.

Hi Guys

I've had to change quite a few of these H E sensors on Sony beta's.
What I've found IF they are responsible is.......

When pressing PLAY on the vcr try to turn the top of the head drum disc when the PLAY LIGHT IS STILL ILLUMINATING (usually about 2 to 3 seconds) if it turns feely then it is NOT the sensor. If you feel resistance in turning it left or right then it IS the Hall effect sensor.
I always remove all the glue on ANY I work on (before they go bad, unless it already has).
I also have had none that would work OK after removing the glue if faulty.
I use old faulty capstan motors from Sanyo/Sony or Toshiba Beta's as they all utilise these ,usually about three.
It would be nice to obtain them new,but I too have had no luck...........YET

Hi Libra
No need to apologise.

Yes if you can find a Sony say with bad heads but the head disc spins it should be fine.
Yes ALWAYS remove all glue from these sensors. It really wasn't necessary for Sony use it in the first place as the four legs when bent hold it in place nicely.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on.

I find a SL-C30 in my laboratory, with a good motor drum.
I swapped only the Hal IC. Now i try to soldering
a functional Hall IC on the motor drum of my SL-F30.

Thanks,

Hi Libra
What you could've done was use the entire circuit board with the good sensor fitted and fitted it to the F30 one as they are identical(that's if that drum motor board didn't have any other issues).
