Default 56E PX/4 [?] Bell.

I recently got this bell in a job lot of telephone equipment and was wondering if anybody has any information on it?

The only thing that could be a model number is "56E PX/4" stamped in white on the back.

Each coil has a resistance of 2.2kΩ. The two resistors which can be seen on the rear view are 270Ω and 2.2kΩ.

That looks like a DC operated trembler bell of some sort, though it might function on the usual AC ringing signal. Maybe from some internal phone system?

I wondered that but it looks like a Post Office, or other government thing, and the capacitor seemed a strange thing to include if it wasn't for a 'phone of some type.

Thanks

Hi,
Try here

The capacitor and resistor(s) fitted will be for spark quenching of the trembler contacts.

Regards
Andrew

Thanks very much. That web-site is well worth knowing about.

Cheers
