Replacing handles on portables
Does anyone know of a source of the flexible material used for handles on many attache case portables? I have a Pye radio in very good condition apart for the handle which has some cracks in it.
best regards ... Stef |

Re: Replacing handles on portables
If you let us know the colour and length you need, I may have one.

Re: Replacing handles on portables
Thanks Barry.
The handle is for a Pye P131MBQ and is a grey/lilac colour. I'll attach a picture so you can take a look. It's about 200mm long, including what's inside the brackets. If you have anything close, I'll remove the handle and measure more accurately. best regards ... Stef |

Re: Replacing handles on portables
Hello,
I had a similar one 're-leathered' by a place in Cardiff. Probably should not have done as it cost £30! Michael |

Re: Replacing handles on portables
My Roberts RMB had a wornout handle and I tried to replace leather with a modern red plastic .I had to slice it lengthways to fit and then glue with Bostik .I don't think it looks very good. Yours still looks quite good.

Re: Replacing handles on portables
Sorry, I dont have any leather ones, only plastic. If it's only the appearance that you're bothered about, I'd buy a couple of pots of acrylic paint from an artist's supply shop, a white, and a black, and possibly a light brown, together with a small brush, and carefully touch the cracks in. Remember that the wet paint dry a few shades lighter. Build up the coats until the surface is level. If you intend to use the handle, this will not work, as the cracks will open up again, but as the originals are impossible to get now, better than nothing. Alternatively, ask your local shoe repair shop to make one for you. Mine charges around £18.00, but that's if he happens to have some leather in that shade. If it has to be ordered specially, a lot more.

Re: Replacing handles on portables
I don't know if this is of any help but our group here in Norway has quite a few new old stock parts and amongst them these handles Art. MEK039. NKr 20,- is just over £2 plus postage. Please look at the link and let me know.
