I'm sure most of you will have seen these offered on the 6V6 website, and a few hints to my dad pointed him that way over christmas. Well, what can I say? There was nothing missing, assembly took just over 2 careful hours and the end result works very well. At first it seemed a bit deaf but swapping the oscilator coil around solved this. Reversing the grid battery polarity also resulted in much better weak signal operation. The first noise to issue from the speaker was Mike Peters and 'The Alarm', Live in concert Via BBC Radio Wales Washford site. Since then its zipped up and down the bands and recieves a good amount of stations - 9 daylight and around 45 in the evening. I'm running it off a 20vdc PSU rather than 45 for the plates but it seems perfectly happy with this.

Valve is a DF96.
Now then - might think about building it up into the full loud-speakered glowbug of fun.

It reminds me of the legend printed on one of the other valves here (A mullard PM3): 'There is practically no glow with this filament'

Could anybody inform me of the differences between a DF96 and DF91/1T4?

Hi Rob, the next step is the Radio for Boys book from the 50's, a progessive 1 to 4 valve receiver. It uses DF 33 series valves but could be built with minature types. PM me if you need photocopies.
