Loads of 78s for period listening
Just come across a collection of 78s put up on Archive.org by Boston Library.
https://archive.org/details/78rpm_bo...ort=publicdate It may well have been mentioned here before, if so, apologies for the repeat. When I get my elderly sets back into action I'll feed some of these through them for some music that would have fairly contemporaneous with them.

Yes, Peter Scott mentioned it last April.
I tried it out with the titles I remember from the record collection my parents had when I was a child, it was pretty much infallible! https://archive.org/details/78_the-d...3.3_CT_EQ.flac

Some members might also like my youtube channel, I've mastered and uploaded about 400 sides from my 78 rpm collection.
Mostly UK 1930's dance band recordings, some lesser known ones too. There is some other stuff there you might like or not like! https://www.youtube.com/user/mrbigarms/videos

Re: Loads of 78s for period listening
Wow Clive!
Not only is that a great collection, but your patience and talent at mastering the records for upload is apparent too - how were you able to remove the pops and crackles? (Or had you taken such good care of them that there are none?) Have you thought about uploading them to the Internet Archive as well? The link that started this thread shows only a small part of their "Great 78" project (a project to preserve as many of the ~1.5 million 78rpm records as possible). They've actually now got around 150,000 sides up already, and most importantly, they're always looking for more (that link is more about sending records or them to digitize, but they'd definitely be interested in hosting recordings of already-digitized records). |
