It mentions dynamos for providing power for lighting in public places as well as posh houses, see the 1882 diagram. Quote:

Good to know you got it Dennis. I for one am looking forward to seeing pictures of the actual item, hopefully followed by a success story at some time in the future.

Early issues of "The Model Engineer and Amateur Electrician contained many articles about dynamos and motors. I've attached an example.

Hi Dennis, I see now the lack of a field winding. You can probably make a bobbin fron SRBP sheet and I might have some brushes that would be suitable if you tell me the dimensions needed

Hi Ed, making bobbins should be straightforward.
Brush size is 7/8" * 7/16" * 1 3/8" Although the brushes look to be usable. Good news is that the brush holder, springs and spring tension adjusters are good. Thanks Dennis |

Re: Any sources of info on circa 1880 electric motors?
Well I have the information now to be able to wind a new set of field coils. Bought a couple of old books and one “Dynamo Construction written by Urquhart” from 1895 has info on a “Trial method of determining magnet windings“.
