OK, so as far as I can see the radio itself was manufactured by Jdeal Werke. As I and J as first letter of a word were interchangeable at the time, this would be Ideal Werke in modern German. The capacitor block was made by Loewe. Presumably Ideal bought it from Loewe. The Antenna selector/filter was made by Kaco. The other bit of the text says "VE Zubehör" = Volks Empfänger accessories.

Hello folks,

the key word for "Ideal" is "Blaupunkt". Why this? Read the story here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blaupunkt

When I was a boy my granddad had a set he called "by Blaupunkt Ideal at Hildesheim" and yes, Blaupunkt belonged to Bosch. So it's no wonder we find Bosch capacitors there.

As previously mentioned, in older German texts you can read an I for J and vice versa depending on font used.

There is another fact I have learned regarding VE 301: Repairmen of the early days often used parts of different manufacture when one of these sets was on the bench as almost everything was interchangeable! So in the end it is no surprise finding an "Owin" chassis in a "Mende" cabinet.

Regards, Joe

One more short additional info: The Blaupunkt story is a drama with a sad ending. That's bad enough as some products were first-class and rock solid. Years ago I met a former Blaupunkt engineer who told me that in the early 80's he and his team had developed a prototype of a portable car navigation system. Presenting this to the executive board the reply was: "Nobody needs this and nobody would buy such a toy. Waste of money."
