What is this - vernier calliper add-on?
Can anyone identify this please. I am not sure what it fits onto. The large headed screw (which has a removeable head) adjusts the blade with respect to the vernier scale. The small headed screw fixes the device onto a frame or another measuring instrument. It looks like it belongs on a vernier caliper but is maybe more specialised.

Could it be part of a gunsight? There's a whole range of such devices where the adjustment is to allow individual calibration to a given rifle, then compensate for the natural 'fall' of the round with distance.
Here's a pic of another such example: http://farm6.*****************/5286/5...5cdc9ec7_z.jpg |

A complete guess, but possibly part of an old microscope sample positioner?

Maybe part of a height gauge?
