Default What things need replacing on this PYE VHF 2D?

I’ve done standard stuff so far, took audio pcb out as well as two transformers out for testing, took tuning capacitor out and cleaned vanes and exterior, cleaned chassis up and cut out all wax, Eire and hunts caps all for replacement.

Do these sets need anything else changing? It shorted out on first power up but that was my fault I think as the mains cable was split.

Any advice greatly appreciated. I’ve got to repaint dial knobs, trim and regeneration cabinet as well as make a knew baffleboard and cloth as old one is full of woodworm.

I am also replacing some of the valves as two have gone to air.

Cutting out capacitors en masse rather than replacing them one at a time sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.

I have the circuit diagram. They all need to come out as Eires are the Rifas of the radio world. I could be wrong but I did it en masse in my Murphy and that’s fine?

Removing components en masse runs the risk of making mistakes when soldering in replacements. It's a good idea to take detailed photos before you get the wire cutters out or make sketches, and then replace components one at a time. I agree you can generally predict that paper capacitors are going to need replacing if carrying HT or if in the AGC circuitry so I don't attempt to power up until I have replaced all of the usual suspects; I just do them one at a time making sure that the replacement wires go to the right points. Cheers, Jerry

I have taken photographs of every capacitor regardless of how insignificant they are, even down to the hunts ones.
