Default Getting the AV channel to work on Mitsubishi CT-2217TX

Hi everyone,

I bought this Mitsubishi CT-2217TX from ebay last week and it works an absolute treat! The remote control has an AV button, and the rear of the TV has DIN sockets for sound and a BNC video In (and a video out) connection. I hooked up the video socket to my VCR (BNC to RCA), and yet when I selected the AV channel, it just goes to channel two. Has anyone heard of this problem?

I thought maybe it might need the sound to be hooked up too for it to work, though it's just a theory. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Will

My Grandad had a similar Mitsubishi set in his later years.

IIRC there was another connection on the lower front panel, another DIN for sound out IIRC.

Is it the original Mitsubishi remote, or is it an aftermarket copy or universal type.
I take it there is no button or switch on the set itself.

Try selecting channel 0

Thanks for getting back to me Graham. I believe the remote is the original. AV and 0 share the same button. I've seen similar models with an AV button on the actual set; it's weird how it doesn't have the button, but has a video-in socket on the back!

Don't DINs have a connection breaking (or making) option in the socket? depending on if the plug was in or out? So for example it knows you only need it for RF if there are no plugs attached.

That's really useful information Charlie - thank you! I suspected it might not work when I was testing it solely with a video in. I'm going to get a Din audio cable and give it a go.

Cheers!

It's been a while since I saw one of these but something in the back of my mind seems to remember there being a door with a switch behind it on the lower left next to the remote receiver window, I might be thinking of a different tv but worth a look

I have the same TV. It needs to have a DIN plug inserted into the audio socket and CH8 selected.

Blimey, it'd be hard to find a less intuitive AV switching procedure! Did it not occur to them to just fit an 'AV/TUNER' button on the front or on the remote?
Wonder how many of these usable TVs got dumped when DVD and freeview came in, as people thought they could only be used on UHF?

I have a couple of Grundigs and an ITT which have combined DIN audio-video plugs, and insertion just means that channel zero is switched from a UHF tuner preset to an AV input. I think on the Thomson ICC3, which is SCART, the same happens if a plug is present.

Just to answer post #7 - that feature was the Rediffusion/Doric Mk4. It had a toggle switch behind a flap and an LED beside it to remind you. Great if they were used with a dedicated signal such as a bookies.
Never knew about the Mitsubishi's AV input - it's not exactly something you'd get by trial and error, is it?
