Great idea Mick. Where did you source the Amitec devices?

I love stripboard !
You can bang a circuit out in next to no time.
This weeks circuit was a remote start circuit for the local community radio station I work for
www.crmk.co.uk

We bought some double CD players and needed them to start from the broadcast mixer. (we currently use domestic machines... blergh !)

A pair of ISD74's (opto's) and stripboard, what more do you need !
And yes, it works beautifully thankyou

Hiya, neat work, but excuse my ignorance - what is the circuit here? A few more details, please.
Cheers

Well, in radio, the CD players, record decks, MiniDisk decks and Jingle / advert playout PC needs to be controlled from the broadcast desk...

In order to do this, the mixer sticks a 5V peak when either of the yellow or Yellow buttons are pressed. (Start or Stop)
When you want to start a new track, or whatever, you hit the button, that sticks a 5V pulse down a cable, the LED in the Opto-Coupler lights up, the Photo-Transistor inside conducts and briefly S/C's the play or Cue button on the CD player and voila
It's all done be remote control instead of having to reach over and press buttons.

Hope that makes things a bit clearer

Dr, Dave

(And yeah, that's me in the picture)

Ah, okay then. So this is basically a remote 'switch' for want of a better word? Good thinking!

Dr Dave - do you do a bit of mixing yourself? 'Dr Dave' sounds like a 'special guest appearance' DJ's name

~meant to ask, please post the circuit diagram. thanks

And here's one I came across recently. The component density is incredible - this is veroboard, not an etched circuit board!

It's part of an old, home-built circuit for radio-controlled models.

That's interesting. I seem to recall that there was a long running series in the Radio Constructor regarding radio controlled circuits for models. I wonder if it's one of them?

Ah, do you know what era? I have about 20 such circuits here, that I acquired recently. They are made to a very high technical standard by someone who was very concerned about and careful with stray inductance, given the limitations presented by veroboard, and very able to achieve a high component density. I can post more photos if anyone is interested.

RC was very keen on radio controlled models.

There were several series and individual articles during the 1960s.

In particular a series called "Basic Radio Control" by F.L.Thurston which ran from July 1966 to September 1967. There was also a sister publication devoted to radio controlled models.

Regards,

F L Thurston rings a bell and it would have been around that period. A 'Single-Channel Tone Transmitter' was one of these and I remember the circuit density was quite high on most of the circuits. Have a look on this website http://vintageradio.me.uk/radconnav/radcon.htm Dedicated to Radio Constructor and I think he has an index for many volumes.

Hi PETE

The nixie clock is a great peice of work, looks great
could catch on with those city gents who want a bit of retro in their posh pads
you could make a penny or 2 if you aimed it at the right quarter
and hand made to boot
keep up the good work
