Hacker Hunter RP38A aerial dimensions
Just dived into the world of Hacker radio by buying an Autocrat RP33, Herald RP35 and Hunter RP38A, all in various states of repair off ebay (total £50.95). Also joined the Yahoo group. All mainly due to the high regard they are held in here.
The Hunter is battered with only the bottom two sections of the aerial and no rear grille. The radio is in the post so I could order one or two slow boat 99p aerials now as potential replacements. This is just intended for my own use or maybe a gift for the old man so it doesn't need to be true to the original, just functional, same goes for the rear grill if anyone has a suggestion. So could someone measure their aerial (and count the sections) for me please? TIA Andrew |

Re: Hacker Hunter RP38A aerial dimensions
Thanks Frank, yes that sort of thing is what I'm after, although it looks a bit prominent, a thinner one would be better. Maybe it could have been sanded thinner. There's one for sale that's more like the original pattern except bigger holes and maybe a bit big, which might be OK, it's listed as being 17.5CM X 9CM and £1.95 incl. del. which is at least the right price.

Hi Andrew, aerial measures 85cm from top face of tuning dial to tip, 8 sections in all. Cheers, Jerry

Re: Hacker Hunter RP38A aerial dimensions
Thanks Jerry.
I couldn't find anything suitable in the 99p section so I bought a 115cm 10-section one for £1.53. Hopefully I can fit part of that to what's left of the original. Don't think the thick end is much use though. Also starting to think of improving the design with a brushed aluminium grill... |

Re: Hacker Hunter RP38A aerial dimensions
The aerial comes off if I pull too hard. I just used the last two sections which are longer and make it stick out. I got two aluminium grills for £2.76 and, after some fettling, stuck one on with double-sided tape. It's not pretty but it is still a pretty good radio.
