Ekco AC86 help please... part 1
Hi, I am trying to rebuild a sad AC86 and need to replace the output transformer as the primary is open circuit. Eventually I would like to get a period replacement part or have it rewound. Meanwhile I am after a replacement so I can get it up an running for "eventual" testing.
The output valve specified is the AC/PEN which has an optimum load of 7500 to 8000 ohms. Could I use a later part say an output transformer with a primary impedance of 7000 ohms, secondary 3/4 ohms, the sort that would be used with an EL41 output valve? Thanks for your help, Paul. |

Yes. The only problem would be a slight loss of volume. Go ahead.
Cheers, Steve P.

Also check the plate current isn't excessive, which could be caused by a fault in the OP Valve's biasing arrangements. Excessive plate (Anode) current will cause the primary winding to fail.

Thanks "mister valve"... but no need to worry about that!!! My avatar is the set I am working on. As you can see it has no valves at all at the moment... I need to acquire them all. Firstly I am trying to determine which parts are still good, note the rust on the chassis surface.
PS Welcome to the forum. |

Paul, I have an AC/PEN which you can have for the cost of postage. What other valves do you need?

Wow thanks Phil. I have been slowly gathering the valves... infact the AC/PEN is the one I have been having trouble finding. I will send you a PM.
