New Organiser for Manchester Swapmeet late 2008 ?
Fellas
Anyone else fancy having a crack at the event ? Am certain someone can give it a different twist. BVWS supported, at least in respect of a nice cheap church hall / community centre type venue, so no risk on the money side. John |

I may know just the place, close to M6/A580 junction at Haydock..
If I can have a prospective couple of dates and possible numbers I may be able to find out A: if the place is available and B: if they are up for hosting a different sort of event from the jumble sales they seem to have every month or so.. |

Re: New Organiser for Manchester Swapmeet late 2008 ?
In reading this, I'm assuming it's Haydock Park Racecourse, many years ago, they had a weekly car boot sale on Sunday. This was attended by many, indeed, Tim Wonnacott and his friends would've had a field day there. Sadly, I don't feel this is the right venue. Led by profit motives, prices were increased beyond all sensibility. Another venue is needed.

Until a few years ago the Vintage Valve Technology Fair happened there (which I found out about in time to attend the last one which took place).
I presume that the prive increase mentioned by Alf above was the [main] reason for the demise of that event.

Re: New Organiser for Manchester Swapmeet late 2008 ?
I wasn't actually thinking about the racecourse rooms. they had a computer fair up until a couple of years ago.. think it was monthly, but it fizzled out mostly because it is a little out of the way for the Wigan locals.
There are a few possible venues in Ashton. Some small communication has been ongoing behind the scenes, but obviously if anybody knows a suitable venue or has their own hall (crazier things have happened) all suggestions will be welcome. I wanted to mention a place I have fond memories of. Does anybody live near Woodford? The community hall was always very good value for money. |

The main problem (apart from being rather "off the beaten track") is its very limited parking (four cars maximum). Although it is possible to park along the road, it is narrow and care is needed to ensure that the bus (yes, there is one) and the milk tanker (once a day) and various farm vehicles can get past. Apart from large events like the NVCF, parking at most others is very limited.

Is it reasonable to assume that this will be in the Warrington area? Excellent accessibility from the M6!
I look forward to details so that I can get it into my diary.

Re: New Organiser for Manchester Swapmeet late 2008 ?
Having been out of radio range for a few weeks have just picked up on this.
Last saw John M's comment on 6th July! Is there any update [admittedly doesn't look like it]. Dave |
