Wire recorder head
I have a bit of a project which I am a little weary of starting, I have a WW2 wire recorder with a dead head, the head has been cleaned and all the packing goo has been removed from inside of the heads casing leaving the head gap and coil easily assessable. I can remove the coil but can not unwind it as its too frail so I can not measure the length, I will probably need to make a new bobbin for a new coil, but the big problem is making the head gap, how do I go around doing that? any ideas?

Re: Wire recorder head
Can you not salvage the old bobbin? and measure the wire dia. then just refill the bobbin with new wire, you won`t be much out on the original resistance.
I would imagine the head armature comes in 2 halves, could you not try brass shimming to give you the spacing? What is used for the original spacing? Harold |
