Default Philips 170 radio. FOC.

I have two of these, that I had off Cobaltblue (MIKE) about 2014. I had one when I was a young lad so had these as rememberance for the one I gave away. I'm 72 now and looking at clearing out a lot of my stuff before XYL chucks it in the skip. Anyway, to start, I'm giving these 170s away for free to anyone who can collect from Aberdare RCT, CF44 6ED.

I have done nothing to these except store them in our Lounge since 2014.

The Philips 170a is one of the best sets produced for an ordinary domestic user, a good station getter with above average audio quality. Some pics might kindle a bit more interest.

Yes, agree with that. The RF amp makes a huge difference. If the EM34 is still working, they look the part as well. Valve line-up is EF39, ECH35, EF39, EBL31, AZ31, EM34.

One of the interesting aspects of this set is the way that the IF amplifier is made to work as an audio preamp in gram mode, made necessary by the use of just a single valve in the audio amplifier in radio mode.

It's not been powered up since I've had it.

How sad, I’d like them but just cannot collect. Will you be at RWB ?

Richard, please consider trying your local Freecycle before skipping it. I use Freecycle a lot - I am gifting a transistor reel to reel tomorrow here in Leicester, to a local person who will restore.

Hi Richard, I may be able to offer your radios a good home. Let me make some enquiries and I'll get back to you over the weekend.

I can wait. I'd prefer them to go to someone who'll make use of them.
