Default AVO 8 multimeter batteries and other aspects

Hi all

I am thinking of buying a used avo8. But looking at the batteries it needs, it says 15v battery, and was wondering which battery it could be.

What batteries does it use, and are they readily available in good price?

What other aspects of the set should I look for in buying a good reliable avo 8 set?

Thanks.

I use 5 CR2032 lithium cells with a spacer.

BLR121/B121 15v AVO 8 batteries are available. Just do some internet searches in the usual places. Alternatively it's not too difficult to make something suitable using inexpensive 1.5v button cells or 3v lithium cells as already mentioned.

As far as I know the 15V battery is only needed for the highest resistance range. The other 2 resistance ranges use a 1.5V D-size cell, and no batteries at all are needed for the votlage and current ranges.

So if you don't have the 15V battery you haven't lost too much. I would be careful using the highest restance range on IC-based equipment due to the 15V between the probes!

Originally I think it was an Ever Ready B121 (later BLR121). You can still get something that will fit, for example here :

https://www.smallbattery.company.org...cturers,BLR121

or there are various workarounds such as 5 lithium cells suggested in an earlier reply.

A 15mm copper pipe stop end is the right size for the spacer with 5 CR2032 cells.

There was this thread from the distant past:

The RB121 batery shown is still going on the original CR2032 lithium cells.

My Avo 8 will only take the battery on its side, CR2032 will not fit, so I have bought a card of LR44 to try.
