McCarthy Radiogram
This old monster has been awaiting restoration for some time and getting nearer the front of the queue now, so just wondering if anyone can shed any light on things...
Any ideas on model? There's no indication to be found on it. Not of great importance as suspect its pretty standard fare circuitry wise so shouldn't be any great challenge if service info unavailable. More importantly... Suspect the record deck isn't the original and trying to find out what deck would have been fitted originally. I've a good pile of spare decks so if I can find out what it should have I'll hopefully have a replacement in amongst them. Thanks in advance for any help. |

Re: McCarthy Radiogram
Looks like an FM7 "Bureaugram": https://www.service-data.com/product...09/4776/e13609. No information as to the autochanger.

Re: McCarthy Radiogram
The Autochanger currently fitted is a much later Garrard Model 1000 from 1966/67. The original is liable to have been a BSR UA6 or possibly a Garrard RC111. Both are 3 speed units.

Re: McCarthy Radiogram
Thank you for insight both. Helpful to have suspicions confirmed.

Re: McCarthy Radiogram
Here is a photo of an EMSTON radiogram that was almost certainly made by McCarthy and sold by the J & M Stone (Max Stone was the Managing Director) shops of that era - hence the "EMSTON" branding.
The original deck is a BSR. Last edited by dazzlevision; 18th Feb 2020 at 9:09 am. |

Re: McCarthy Radiogram
Yes, good show. The tuning dial on the Emston certainly looks very similar so will pop in a BSR of suitable vintage, even if it's not exactly the right one it'll be more in keeping than the present deck.
Many thanks. |
