Re: What was it originally
Goodness...that wiring warning would be enough to keep me well away!
I usually obey that rule, But to have it so blatantly spelled out...

Re: What was it originally
Looks rather like it might have been a Telefusion/Rediffusion radio relay speaker originally.
Also looks about as dangerous as the sort of thing I might have concocted up in my early years as an enthusiastic, but un-knowledeable lad! Tony. |

Re: What was it originally
Ah yes, a sawn off KB 550.
What's he used for the chassis? It looks as if he pinched the missus table cloth for the speaker cloth. Quite a lethal lash up looking at the warning on top of the cabinet. Regards Symon |

Re: What was it originally
A steampunk blunderbuss cabinet cut-down and upcycled into a radio as a feat of retaliation for all those AVOs?

Re: What was it originally
Find about fifty of the scruffiest cracked up Rifa Class X caps and connect across the mains (inside the set), stand well clear and connect to the mains. It may however discolour that speaker table cloth somewhat.

Re: What was it originally
I did have a go at restoring this poor old example of a KB 540, that I bought for 99p and travelled a round trip of about 250 miles to collect.
That particular KB 540 now looks like this. http://www.kbmuseum.org.uk/kb_images/kb540/kb540.htm But I think the ex KB cabinet in post #1 is a step too far to restore, and I agree, it is best blown up or left as it is, as an example of what not to do to a radio. Mike |
