Here's an interesting picture from the family photo album.

Taken circa 1970, this is part of the showroom at the former Watford Radio Co. The fellow in the middle is my late father, Terry, who was the firm's TV and radio engineer for several years. To the left is the owner, Len Pitt.

Hi
Trainspotting - I see a Bush TV183D - A640 series, dual standard mono. Also a Murphy 20" single standard mono, which I think is an A793, the single-standard version of the 640.
Also I think we have a Thorn 1500 with the controls under the CRT, though I might be wrong there, and also a 20" HMV version on the shelf beside the Bush.
No colour sets that I can see, though probably they had pride of place towards the front of the shop - also I doubt the shelf would have been strong enough to hold them!
Go on - how wrong am I?

Now that is what I call a good display. Bright and inviting.
Alas! Great pity the telly [?] had to be repaired before delivery to customer.

Not very wrong BUT that 1500 may be a 1400 I sense there may be a turret knob on the extreme RHS of that control panel. I've got the 1500 with the similar 'wood' & control panel is all 'silver'.

Hi
I wonder - some (the 1400) had the turret tuner, others (the early 1500) had it blanked out with a silver cover. I fear we will never know!

A pity it wasn't turned on in the photo - we'd have known then; if the assembled populace were wearing ear defenders (for relief from the intercarrier buzz) it would be a 1400!
