SL-C7ub
I've just taken my SL-C7ub from the shelf which I've had for almost 16 years now.
A nice machine and was well looked after, it was bought for a pound in a auction by a old friend (lost touch now) and he gave it to me as a present. It was my main vcr for a few years. When there was a jittering side to side fault I put it to one side and used a different vcr. I've plugged it in and it still runs, the timer buttons are worn and the picture is jittery in playback and pause mode. Which explains the fault would be the drum servo control? I've looked into my Video fault finding guide and there is no mention of this fault. Has anyone got any ideas? Paul

Re: SL-C7ub
I presume you've checked and cleaned the belts or better still replaced them. I've known motor bearings go on these; and then again the servos are suspect on many Sony Beta m/cs ALL small electrolytics in the servos should be replaced as a matter of course.

Re: SL-C7ub
Those are the Tantalum Caps that give problems, possibly small and red.

Re: SL-C7ub
Tantalum are technically electrolytics and yes they could both be prone to failure (tants go low resistance and normal electros high) although I have no experience with this machine

Re: SL-C7ub
Bottom board. The servo section is marked out. The caps are blue, made by Sanyo and look like traditional electrolytics, although quite small. They are tants. Change the lot.
