Re: pye tv information please
The channel selector knob in the 3rd photo is labelled from A to H I think, these are the Irish 625 line VHF channels.
Would need a VHF system I modulator and a suitable signal source. Member Linescan87, Onjoj on YouTube will probably know about this set, he's restored various TV's used in Ireland. |

Re: pye tv information please
Not an expert on Irish sets but they did use 405 as well, that looks like a single standard 405 line to me. Only one line hold control suggests this so a standards converter would be required and a set of that age will I suspect going to require some work to get it working reliably
Lovely piece on the Irish 405/625 switchover here. John. Edit. Just seen john Joe's post so no converter required, just a VHF modulator. Said I wasn't an expert ;-) Last edited by jayceebee; 15th Dec 2019 at 11:08 pm. Reason: more info |

Re: pye tv information please
Hows it going?
I actually have one of these, waiting patiently for it's turn on the bench(unlikely to be anytime soon). As Mr. Hoover correctly states, it is 625 line VHF so will indeed require a VHF modulator. Now to the price, I wouldn't pay that but then I've got more TV's, radios and other stuff than common sense!! However, vintage TV's are much thinner on the ground here than in the UK, for obvious reasons (population size and early adoption of television) Be prepared for CRT and lopt problems. All in all, if you have €100 to spare and you don't mind taking a gamble, go for it. |

Re: Pye TV information please
As has been said this is a VHF single standard 625 line system ‘I’ set so a VHF system ‘I’ modulator will be required - readily available on ebay - many are VHF/UHF and multi system - some are of reasonable quality - others not so much
These VHF single standard 625 line sets were mainly deployed in the parts of Ireland that were out of range of British 405 line services ie most of the country - no Irish 405 line services were ever available in these areas , a skeleton 405 line service was provided in the areas where significant numbers of 405 line sets were already in use receiving British 405 line overspill €100 is not too unreasonable for a working example but a bit on the steep side for an ‘untested’ set Rgds to all John Last edited by kan_turk; 16th Dec 2019 at 2:01 am. Re: Pye TV information please
Hi Lads, my one has the same knobs for the tuner. You see some strange stuff on Irish Pye TV's, I have a dual standard that has variac tuning on UHF with just an ordinary pot, no reduction or dial!

Varicap tuning, surely, rather than Variac!
