Default The Bug has bit......

A very good evening to one & all.
I told myself that I'd take at least a month off looking for another set to restore after I'd finished the Bush DAC90A (which is still performing admirably!).
But then I did a foolish (?) thing & searched Ebay for a suitable next set, just looking you understand.
I am awaiting the arrival of an HMV 1115!
Looks to be interesting with that thumping great dropper bolted to the case.
I can imagine it getting rather warm!
And a push/pull output stage! What were they thinking?!?!
I've read elsewhere on the forum they were used in a modified state for a radiogram, interesting!
It looks to be in reasonable condition too which in some ways is a bonus.
As my better half has already said.....We shall see.

To paraphrase Tommy Cooper:

Wedge.... thin end............... thin end... wedge.

But it's still just the thin end. Wait until you take on an AR88 or a B40 or a Beau Decca.

I have had an HMV 1115 in my collection for several years now, when I first got it it I had to completely rewire it as all wiring insulation had perished. Works OK, it does not really do justice to having a push-pull output stage in such a small set.

Top Shelf? Oh, 3 photos, only got the first one straight away. Now I am not sure.

Looks to be a cosy retreat from the world, plenty of space left.

Be very careful indeed ... it’s amazing how many you can get in a small room, unlike Paul I’m restricted to one room but there is some project creep
The photos don’t do it justice but you get the idea .... spot the Murphy A104 (bit of a trick question)

Thank you, Chris: much appreciated, but I mustn't. Mainly because I picked up this little lot years ago and they're still waiting to be made good use of once, as will shortly happen (but even then it was shortly to happen...), I dispose of enough radios to give me somewhere to get to work on those that are left. Such is life, in this madhouse at least...

Looks like the same bag I bought!

How about a small 4BA/6BA OE spanner?

I had the radiogram version but without the original record deck. It sounded very well through its large speaker. The heat from the dropper was lost within the bigger case but that won't be as easy within a radio case of course.

I don't think there was much modification from the radio chassis. The radiogram was only a table top one and must have been at the cheaper end of the market. Having said that the push pull output with interstage transformer for the phase splitter mustn't have been cheap to make.

It originally had HMV's last 78RPM autochanger which was quite troublesome I believe.

Hi John, I believe your Murphy is on the shelf below the Ever ready battery, in the right hand picture. It is behind the Bush and Philips sets, with its back to the camera ? Do I get the £100 first prise ?

Close John but no cigar ... although I don’t know how you got that close!

The location is correct but it’s facing the camera, so no prize sorry.
