Default Can anyone tell me what this is? (photo)

Hi everyone,

I watched an episode of Dynasty the other day and noted a prop on top of a TV set that I couldn't identify. I'm assuming the item to the right is a VHS recorder but what is the smaller thing?

Any ideas? I'm intrigued!

Thank you
Emily

I suppose it is just a TV prop so could be anything.

I think it's a Philips Viewdata terminal. Possibly a 3605?

I tend to agree with Jac. Looks like an early Bearcat 220 series VHF / UHF Scanner.

I would go with Terry's VK5TM opinion, a Cable Box, weren't the Americans big on Cable TV in the 80`s ?
And why would the props dept put a scanner, on the telly ? A cable box, would add realism surely.

I dont think it is a Bearcat scanner.
Buttons look a bit wrong, and the front panel angle is also a bit iffy.
Could be a myriad of things.
Too little evidence ...
Any chance you can tell us the series, date, episode, time elapsed??

Bearcat made a lot of models, but I think this one is close. See attachment.

It's a Bearcat scanner, no doubt about it.

If it was a radio scanner, it would be part of the plot.
VCRs and cable boxes were arguably rich men's trappings in the early 1980s

Given that the picture shows someone in police/security-style uniform, this would kinda make sense!

The scanner's antenna looks fully extended.
