Re: Ferguson Videostar and Fisher Studio Standard collector
from my faint recollection there is differences in the front panel layout and design of the 3v36, very minor but if I remember right it looks a bit nicer.

Re: Ferguson Videostar and Fisher Studio Standard collector
The fvh-p725, used to have this in black years ago. Good quality machine but suffers the idler problems the same as the 716 and 722.

Re: Ferguson Videostar and Fisher Studio Standard collector
These are Sanyo-made machines. Looks like 1985-ish.

Re: Ferguson Videostar and Fisher Studio Standard collector
Well after fitting a new (my last) idler and new belts to this machine it will fast forward, spool up but not rewind or play. Been at it all night. Rewind just jams as if the motor can't turn, the reel doesn't turn at all when play is pressed. I'm stumped as its exactly the same setup as the other 2 machines I have. Looks like il have to take one of the others apart and compare to see what's up. :/

Re: Ferguson Videostar and Fisher Studio Standard collector
This is what I was faced with before changing the belts, the old one had completely melted to the motor spindle and idler pulley, all thick and sticky
The idler tire was split in several places and had started to crumble. The belt for the spooling mechanism was also the same. |

Re: Ferguson Videostar and Fisher Studio Standard collector
Complete collection, fvh-p725 now working thanks to a wonderful little bottle of rubber restorer. Forgot how good the picture was on these machines. Will make some YouTube videos and add a link to them.
For some reason I can only upload one pic at a time from my phone. The fvh-p906 is playing games, won't spool up fully as the mechanism seems tight. The fvh-p915 has decided to throw a wobbler and show the flashing stop symbol on the screen. Baffled as it worked fine last week. |

Re: Ferguson Videostar and Fisher Studio Standard collector
For anyone remotely interested.. Here's a vid of the fisher studio standard fvh-p915kv in action after a service. Had to short out the faulty dew sensor temporarily and makeshift a new idler, but she's going. Loading motor seems to be a bit noisy since the service, gone the same way as the fvh-p905. Wondering if part of the mechanism doesn't like the lithium grease....

Re: Ferguson Videostar and Fisher Studio Standard collector
Quick update (you're getting bored of this aren't you?)
Pic of the new arrival fisher fvh-p916kv which has the buttons all labeled in German, can't be many of these about. It's a sort of metallic dark grey rather than black but the internals except for the tuner pcb are the same as the other 2. |

Re: Ferguson Videostar and Fisher Studio Standard collector
Spotted an ITT 3605 recently (clone of the 3v38) and got it with the intention of fixing it up, the belts were stretched and the idlers were perished. Swapped the bits from my 3v38 as the motor for the heads had seized. Anyways got it running after some bother with the loading belt. Only problem was the ITT is such an ugly machine, the covers for the buttons were missing and the buttons were badly marked.
Decided to swap the front facials over, which involved changing the switch board for the power/timer eject/play etc. Swapping the flaps for the cassette entrance. Changing the displays over involved changing out the entire pcb, wiring to the main board and also the tuner pcb as the wiring was all laid out differently. Here's the result, (can't tell eh?) the ITT is ugly! |

Re: Ferguson Videostar and Fisher Studio Standard collector
Somewhere I've got a brown version of that ITT!
When I was studying in Germany in the mid '90s, our shared student flat had one in the common area. That was sort of champagne colour. I seem to recall playback was fine but recording gave a picture that looked like badly clogged heads. Probably a dirty preset in the video /FM section.I ended up putting that Fisher I mentoned earlier in its place for a while, so we could tape stuff.

Re: Ferguson Videostar and Fisher Studio Standard collector
It was the ITT VR 3905 probably. Rebadged JVC HR-D120. Which I have in my collection.

Re: Ferguson Videostar and Fisher Studio Standard collector
I had one of those, passed it on to a forum member years ago.
Bad points: The audio in LP was pretty dire. The lack of a locked picture search (i.e. you have to keep the fast wind button pressed) was irritating. What they have in their favour is that they're extremely well -made and the functions have a nice positive response, i.e. a click/clunk! Removing the cassette basket is a doddle too. Quite versatile input switching. I think there's another video-in on the camera socket you can connect a second device to if you have the pinout. You can even insert-edit picture over audio, but very crudely!

Re: Ferguson Videostar and Fisher Studio Standard collector
Video of it working after the service. The machine was immaculate inside and only needed the capstan belt and idler belt, but treated the reel tires and idlers with the rubber renue.
Pleased with the results, my test tape is showing its age with various chewed bits and dirt, time to get another. https://youtu.be/AAdpxtcIbws |

Re: Ferguson Videostar and Fisher Studio Standard collector
The mechanism sounds a lot like the 3V23, even the way the function LEDs blink. Were they mechanically similar at all?

Re: Ferguson Videostar and Fisher Studio Standard collector
Not really, maybe the same capstan motor and rew/ff motor making it sound similar.
The belt routing is similar to the older 3v29/30 with the use of the smaller idler to provide playback and the larger central idler to provide rewind and fast forward. There's other videos of my other machines on YouTube aswell. The Fergusons all sound similar with the exception of the 3v32 which is quite and in my opinion a bit boring in its loading noises. |
