Default Vintage TV collection in the early 80s

I recently came across these old photos that show some of the sets from my vintage TV collection in the early 80s. Apologies for the poor quality of the photos, probably taken on a cheap 126 film camera.

First photo, top to bottom: Ekco TA201 (now owned by Jac in Holland), Baird T18 (looks like made by Bush, there's a very similar Bush radio).

Second photo: Baird Everyman, Ekco TS88, Pye BV30, Pye B18T.

Third photo: Bush TV22 (only one I still own), Pye BV20, Bush TV24.

And one more, a Marconi/HMV pre-war console set model number that I can't remember. Although the knobs are not fitted in the photo, I'd taken them off for a clean, it wasn't meant to be a 'proper' photo in any way, just a snap at the moment. Gordon Bussey bought this set from me, so it would be interesting to see it now, whichever museum or collection it is in. I know Gordon had a tame, retired former cabinet spray master who used to do his cabinet restorations to a very high standard.

Very nice pictures steve.
I remember seeing some of those sets when I visited you in the late 1980,s.
I`ve looked threw some of my old literature and think the large console is an HMV 903 and what a lovely big set it is.
Do you wish you still had them or are you over that now ?

Hmm. Difficult question, but to be truthful, I don't hanker for the problems of housing about 25 vintage TVs, nor the headache of all the problems, missing parts, faults etc that occupied large amounts of ROM in my brain. Lovely memories, and I do still have a 'mint' TV22 to be restored, so one day 405 lines will flicker again in my house. But I still love the subject and I love reading about peoples' collections and restorations. I'm so glad that when I dispersed my collection all the sets went to true collectors - like Jac! - who still own and cherish the sets.

Hi Jac! I think a guy called David Boynes bought the Baird T18, but I can't be sure. I'm not sure if he's even on the VTV scene any more. He used to hang out at Gerry Wells' place a lot as I recall.

David Boynes is our very own FERNSEH of this parish, and very much still into VTV if any of his recent posts are anything to go by

I may be a bit paranoid or just careful, best not to link real names with "names" used on this or any other web thing.

Fair enough MM,
I would not normally have linked real names on here however in this case DBs handle has been posted on here before on an open forum, and while I certainly cannot speak for DB nor can I say possibly say if he would mind or not,in this case it is a bit of an open secret, however if he does mind then of course I would immediately apologise for any faux pas on my part.

Cheers,
Baz

I don't think Fernseh's real name is a secret. I certainly knew it and I've never even met him! He's also on the Golborne forum as Geordie McBoyne, I believe and as Till Eulenspiegel on the now-closed VRAT forum.

Lovely pictures, Steve!

Link to the Marconi 702. This is the set I've had the on going problem of low video drive to the grid of the CRT. Work on this set is almost done and the set is now displaying a very good picture.

Coming up soon. The 1938 Pye TV-radiogram model 838. This set employs a similar TV chassis as fitted to the 815 table model and the 802 radio chassis.
It's one of the least nice pre-war TVs. Acquired this set in 1988.

Many of my pre-war TVs were acquired during the 1980s when such items could be picked up for small money.

DFWB.

I guess these sets were quite cheap to come by back then as everyone was throwing them out and the real market for collectors had yet to start when prices would be pushed up.
I had a 405 line set in the early 80's when I was around 11, my father rescued it from an old factory, it only picked up BBC1 and ATV, but that was fine for me, I cannot remember the make but was in a big wooden cabinet, about 20" or so.
