Default Toshiba v711-B vcr playback in b&w

Hey guys

I have 2 toshiba v711-B vcrs. I'm in the process of repairing the second one as the first one is working fine. I have changed the belts and cleaned the heads and realigned the audio head as the sound was muffled. Only problem left to sort is why the picture (great quality) is in black and white. Nothing I do adjustment wise gives me a colour picture.

I have checked every plug and play connection. Still nothing. I have confirmed that any picture put into the machines aux connections shows in colour. So it's purely tape related.

Can anyone give me a hint pls as to what to check for next.

Thanks

That doesn't apply to this vcr, but if it did it says at the bottom it automatically sets colour on playback

This pic is what my setup screen looks like. Proving it's putting out colour on the menu and aux inputs. The b&w is related to tape playback only.

Thanks

Think that PDF applies to the V711uk machine which is entirely different and more modern.

I can recall one of the models that was similar to this machine suffered no colour due to one of the 9V rails being slightly low, the cause was the STK regulator IC in the PSU, the actual root cause of the regulator ICs failure (running hot) was the small electrolytic capacitors connected to that chip failing.

If you have two machines the same try swapping the PSUs over complete.

I am not sure now if the same fault above applies to this particular model as it was many years ago now since I last seen one.

Ps. Of course I could be mixing up the 711 uk model with the 711B in my earlier post, the 711UK was the one that suffered from NVRAM corruption on mains power off/failure and was a much newer model that was also cloned by Sony amongst others, however the STK fault was fairly common among the earlier series of machines , the later 711 UK model having a SMPSU and no STK chip of course.
