I just clicked on the Audiogon classifieds out of curiosity, having come across something for sale on another group. At the top of the page, they have the 'boosted' listings, i.e. sponsored ones. The fuse company appears to have all of the 4 sponsored ads at top of page...
(it could be a cookie thing, where they saw I checked them out..but either way, it suggests that the firm isn't cash-strapped) edit - they have a new product: https://www.synergisticresearch.com/isolation/ground-isolation/active-ground-block-sx/ |

Well, we all know what makes untold difference to the depth of the soundstage, the punch, the dynamics ... the overall grunt, shall we say ...
Service data for your pride and joy! On a cryogenically treated gold CD, with a DAC90a shaped uranium enriched lead weight to hold it down on the tray! This forum is missing a trick. |

And they explain all "Wrong fuse direction it will too sound very harsh and bright with a rough overall quality. Sound is harder, brighter, thinner with much more hash." So the fuse somehow knows the difference between electrons shuffling back and forth and shuffling forth and back ![]() Craig

Ha ha. Their website is a GoDaddy roll your own site. And their US address is vacant. What a bunch of scammers.

I stand corrected. I thought I'd found a bargain. I guess you have to pay for the good stuff!

So what happens when they blow? Or do you have to have a sacrificial fuse as well to protect your investment? But that would cause all sorts of distortion having an unknown fuse in series with the 'real' one. I note that they are directional. On AC?

Ah, the current may be alternating, but I suspect that if you query the manufacturers about this, you'll be told that they are special and act on information flow direction.

I used to work in acoustics; I once had a student (clever guy, Swiss as I remember) spend a summer making careful measurements of the acoustic impedance of / complex propagation constant through - various waddings used in loudspeaker enclosures. He made some math models of cabinet behaviours and compared these to measured results. I was hoping we'd find something interesting. He spent a long time sorting out a standing wave tube apparatus so he could get repeatable results, and finally was ready to begin the experiment. He basically concluded that so long as something fibrous / open cell was in there, it didn't really matter what it was. I think he was marked quite highly - it was a repeatable, useful result ![]()

Rather than around £50 for 200g of the Mundorf speaker lagging, you can buy the traditional long fibre wool from Chimney Sheep in the Lake District. Real Herdwick wool.
For the same money that gets you 200g of Mundorf nonsense, you can get 2.5kg of long fibre wool https://www.chimneysheep.co.uk/product/a-bit-of-insulation/ I bought 1kg mainly to stuff up the chimney, and I have enough left over to stuff quite a few loudspeakers. Craig

What happens if I have round-pin mains sockets in my home with no provision for a plug fuse... is my sound going to be equivalent to what I'd get with the most expensive fuse? |

Not really audiophoolery but a NZ Technics advert going big on how their midi system was made of separates not just made to look like separates like the others, what's funny is that my SA-X900L is exactly the kind of system they are deriding (just that the turntable is separate) and it's a similar era Technics!

The most expensive fuses calm electrons and promote smoother flow increasing the power capacity of your interconnects resulting in less strangulation of crescendos. You are missing out without them. You need to start saving. David

"But that sound equipment is my own, not the firm's."
"Yes, sir, however as it is in use in the workplace, it is subject to ISITEE under the EAW regulations." "That's what we used to call PAT, right?" "Yes, and you'll be pleased to know it all passed." "I should think so too, it's rather high-end stuff." "Only one thing, the fuses in some of the plugs didn't meet BS1362. They were the wrong colour. A 13A fuse must be brown and a 5A black, but these were mostly red. I swapped them out for proper brown ones" "You WHAT? Erm, you, um, what did you do with the old ones?" "I broke them open to see whether they contained silica. Many of these dodgy fuses don't, you know. As it happens yours were safe enough but they were still no good on account of the colour. Don't worry, there's no charge for the replacements." |

I love it!
The conversation might have continued.... "You mean those were special fuses which affect the sound? But we can't have anything which fails ISITEE on the premises. Besides, I fitted the correct fuses last week and you've been using it since then. Didn't you notice?... One thing I did notice, they had an arrow printed on them, were they military surplus?" David
