Default Wax Coating

I have wax coated HT choke covered in the usual muck. Does anyone have a bright ideas on how to clean it up?

Could it be as simple as dunking it in a pot of molten beeswax?

Paraffin or white spirit will work.

The usual transformer wax, although soft, has a surprisingly high melting point. Dunking in beeswax, (expensive!) or candle wax, will result in a mixture which may melf at a lower temperature.

Have you tried the trick of wiping it with a piece of paper towel sprayed with WD40? I did that to some old waxed paper capacitors so I could read the values.
