Cossor 335 TRF restoration
I found this wreck of a radio in the loft whilst looking for the Christmas tree, it looked in a sorry state, this would be my next project.
I like to get the set working before stripping it down, then you know that it worked before if you have problems later. Volts were applies to the set,it sprang to life, with the long wire aerial attached it preformed very well good selectivity smooth reaction ample volume. And it worked after restoration |

Nice job!
Excellent looking chassis now. Are you going to build it a case? SEAN

Re: Cossor 335 TRF restoration
Pictures of the cabinet before and after.
The case was stripped using paint/varnish remover followed by a sand down medium then fine paper, no repair needed . It's not the weather to be working outside spraying a cabinet, so! I had been meaning to try this product ,a test some time ago proved to be very good at covering plain plywood found on some cabinets. This one had ply on the sides and the top It is Ronseals quick drying woodstain, easy to apply with a lint free cloth several coats rubbed in well, and no fumes,It gives a semi sheen finish as it should be, I can recommend it. Hi Mick,
I'm surprised but very impressed with your choice of finish! I bet it, now, looks just as it did when it left the factory... Well done Regards David

I love the 'spun aluminium' look of the screening cans, why didn't I think of that?

Re: Cossor 335 TRF restoration
The Cossor 335 is a kit set so I guess its possible it was assembled without the switches and was made as MW only but that would be odd, did you take the cans off the coils?
Are the LW coils present inside the cans? Enjoy Mike T

What an excellent job you have done. I love these simple wooden sets, they are very undervalued just now.

Re: Cossor 335 TRF restoration
Hi Mick this is the Aerial coil again.
The switch looks to be a one pole change over but its not. In the position shown all 3 connections are connected together. In the other position no connections are made. This seems to be a pretty common on Cossor sets of this period my 323 has the same arrangement via a push rather than toggle switch. I won't re-assemble just yet! The Enjoy Mike T
