I've never seen another one and googling for a Roberts j14966 brought up nothing.

I guess it depends what you want to actually _use_ such a radio for. The broadcast shortwave bands are nowhere near as active as they were a couple of decades back - it would be a shame to seek out a broadcast-bands portable SW valve-radio and then find there's nothing of listening-value for you.

[Most of the remaining SW broadcast-stations are either deeply-wacky propaganda-stations from Cuba/North-Korea/China, or equally-wacky religious stations].

if I had to buy a short-wave portable I'd go for something like a Hallicrafters S-29:

https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/hallic..._s_29_s29.html

which has a BFO so would let me listen to SSB amateurs, transatlantic air-traffic and VOLMET stations.

Well i quite like some of the wacky stations in sw as well as the amateur bands. Ultimately I just like the look of some of this vintage kit

If You can't find and Roberts RMB then try a Roberts P5A Mains only portable or it companion P4D Battery Only Version.

I have all three types and all perform well on Shortwave with an external aerial.

Trevor.

I have a feeling the J14966 (and J9871 from post #1) are the Roberts serial numbers? They go on the inside label on later models, like the R66.

As a point of interest I would point out the fact that a Roberts P5A has pick up sockets allowing you to stream music to it from a mobile phone other suitable device!

Trevor.

You can't stream music that's already analog audio, surely? The source, be it phone or whatever has already done that bit (or should that be those bits ). The radio is just amplifying and transducing the audio it's fed into sound.
