Default Mechanical Magic Eye

Split from this thread: https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?t=113812

I know it's not directly related to the thread title, but after doing an internet search for references to magic eye suppressors I came across a novelty item, which I just had to share!

Carry on.

David,

Many thanks for finding this and posting a link. I don't think I'll be building one this year but maybe when I'm a bit older.

There are loads of similar things available - search online for "USB message fan" - they're surprisingly cheap [some around £5] too.

Hi,

This is really interesting, what an ingenious idea, would this work on all valve radios though if the original magic eye was not obtainable?

Paul.

As long as the voltage available from the AGC line matched the gizmo's control requirements, yes.

I wonder whether a modified meter movement with a suitable thin card disk and some green fluorescent paint illuminated by a UV LED wouldn't be simpler.
