Capacitor query.
Morning
Out of interest, anyone know which company manufactured these capacitors? Cannot find a scrap of information online As many will know these are used as LW padders in certain Murphy radios. TIA.

Re: Capacitor query.
Beautiful porcelain component that will last forever. I’ve seen similar as pulls from ez-military equipment circa WWII but never with any manufacturer identified.

Re: Capacitor query.
I'd say it's most likely made by TCC..

Re: Capacitor query.
I've had trouble with these several times over the years. So-called "pyjama button" capacitors. The other side to that shown in the photo is normally filled with a hardened putty-coloured lacquer which often has hairline cracks. The silver plates inside then oxidise and the capacitance value changes over time. I have found these the cause of "deaf" sets where the IF alignment has gone out. I test and usually replace them when I come across them. Cheers, Jerry

Re: Capacitor query.
I acquired a piece of surplus gear (some kind of R.F. strip) in the late 1940s, and it had these inside the coil cans. They were printed (on the ceramic body) "Erie Ceramicon CM***N". I cannot remember what the numbers were.
Just now, doing a search, "Ceramicon" brings up a quite different type of ceramic cap. Tony. |
