Bush TV22
I had to share this...
Just popped into a "vintage" shop in Oxford and spotted a Bush TV22 high above the counter. Now it looked in nice condition and I just said "that won't be for sale will it?" thinking it would be a display item. The answer was "It will be £1,000 and it doesn't work". There was also a Fidelity record player for £195. I bought neither |

Re: Bush TV22
The TV maybe they thought was super valuable and would only entertain big money - fair enough. If I had one I'd be the same... but then I don't have a shop.
But the record player was clearly priced and very much for sale. This is a trendy part of Oxford and I expect these things do sell. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing. |

Re: Bush TV22
I'm reminded of the biggest shock of any post-war telly offered, which sold for, well - just a tad more than what was expected...
https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/176...tegory=results I believe this may be an auction world-record for a TV22, which makes this establishment in Oxford look rather competitive. They should do a fish tank conversion - it'll sell for £1000. Then they can give one of us the insides! Lau |

Re: Bush TV22
Good grief! As a Bush fan I'd like a TV22 to use... as a TV. I don't relish paying that much for an unserviced set in that state.
I expect there's people who know a bit about clothes who go in the same shop and blanche at the cost of those too (I overheard someone being told about some dresses that were £100 - I don't think a sale was made then either). But enough stuff must sell for the place to keep going, and good luck to them. I just hope I can get my TV22 before they become out of my range. At least the old gear is less likely to get trashed these days. |

Re: Bush TV22
And I thought the prices had dropped, one went for £27.56 on eBay earlier this month! I wouldn't buy one from one of these 'vintage' shops, they always over-inflate prices. Best bet is eBay, or the NVCF in May.
No TV22 is worth £1000... Not unless it belonged to someone important and has the relevant documentation to prove it, or it happens to be a rare prototype. I paid £235 for my first one back in 2003, luckily it had a good tube and LOPT, I then bought another in 2010 for £140, unfortunately with a duff tube, and when I did fully restore it (fitting a good tube from another set) the LOPT packed in with shorted turns! Damn shame, as it had a cracking picture Regards, Lloyd. |

Re: Bush TV22
It will depend when the crack was made. If it was in the 50s it's over half a century old and authentic.
If it was last week it's professionally distressed and therefore adds to its character. If it's got a lightbulb jammed in the top it's steam punk. |

Re: Bush TV22
That was the vendor comment in the footnote (M. B-L comments) - the set itself was fine, no cracks or back panel holes. I think he was referring what sometimes happened to this model generally.

Re: Bush TV22
There is another market for these completely separate from the sort of people who frequent this forum:
My TV22 came from a guy who'd bought it 10 years before from an antique dealer. He had it in his home as a retro conversation piece / ornament. At least this meant it was kept dry and untouched. |
