Re: AVO Multimeter survey
Hi Ian,
I can’t remember whether you include the Avo Multiminor within the survey, but I’ve just been given a Mk 5 with a couple of issues although it’s working. The serial number, punched into the bottom edge of the grey hammer-finish case, reads 85744.

Re: AVO Multimeter survey
Hi Phil,
Any Avo Numbers really and the Multiminor is no exception. I'm still hoping that one Day we might get a Date Code for one! Ian |

Re: AVO Multimeter survey
If anyone is looking for a Model 2, there's one on Ebay, serial number 4099 (that number is not in my 3rd edition survey list). I'm not bidding as I somehow seem to have 4 model 2 and 2A!

Re: AVO Multimeter survey
Works for me by putting the item number in the eBay search box (just out of curiosity, I don't need another one).

Re: AVO Multimeter survey
Here's one you probably won't want. Effectively a bluetooth speaker that weighs much more than it needs to, and doesn't even have a carrying handle. It somehow makes it worse that it's probably a WW2 era meter.

Re: AVO Multimeter survey
I've got an AVO minor sat on a shelf in the workshop, as it came with no leads I've never used it. I had a look at it yesterday and cant find a serial number, where is it?

Re: AVO Multimeter survey
Generally on the actual scale plate behind the glass, sometimes too low down to be seen from straight ahead, may need to peer in. Occasionally a replacement scale plate is left blank, but the vast majority have a hand painted serial.

Re: AVO Multimeter survey
A few more for the database.
A Norwegian ham LB0K has advised that these are part of a museum he volunteers at. Model 8 148396 - C - 1262 Model 8 III 64849-867 Model 8 II 17729-953 Model 7 33597-A-452 The museum at www.bergenkringkaster.no is in the old LW then MW transmitter site, building, and still has the two original transmitters from 1937, from Telefunken and Marconi. The MW services were shut down at the end of 1978 but they now run a low power service in the evenings, on 1314

Re: AVO Multimeter survey
Universal Avominor U 20742-104. This is currently for sale online, but i cannot justify buying it currently. I reckon it could be meter no. 742 from October 1934 so rather early. Scale plate spalled/contaminated at one end and needle bent/lacking red disc, might be worthy of a refurb. if anyone's interested.

Re: AVO Multimeter survey
My AVO is a Model 7 Mk2, bought in January 2022 for £20. It's a bit battered and the case is mildewed, the test leads are missing. It is serial number 46793-A-454 and has the Douglas Street address on the instruction panel.

Re: AVO Multimeter survey
Another slight rarity has popped up on eBay. A High Resistance Avometer (later model 2 version). I have one already!

Re: AVO Multimeter survey
-and doesn't the red print on the scale plate fade badly! I think about 3,000 of the Model 1 HRA and 3,000 of the Model 2 HRA were made, fascinating machines, very ergonomic rotary switches but overall a bit of a white elephant- no transformer and maximum 1A DC. (Yes, i do have one..and managed to get it reading within the tolerances printed on the back!)
