Default Re: Cutting porcelain?

The guy who installed our porcelain shower room tiles managed to cut them easily enough using his expensive professional-quality tile cutter. The plumber had to use a diamond hole saw to drill holes for the pipes, and I had no luck trying to drill holes with a tungsten carbide masonry drill on the offcuts to make a small whiteboard for the kitchen shopping list. Not having any diamond drills, I ended up mounting it clamped between two strips of wood that I had grooved using my router. The smaller offcuts are good for mixing Araldite and Plastic Padding on: the hardened adhesive can easily be scraped off using a razor blade, leaving no obvious scratches. Amazing stuff, porcelain.

I'm doing my bathroom, porcelain tiles. I'm using a combination of a tile bed saw and angle grinder fitted with diamond tipped discs.

Nice one, Ken! I think I’ll keep the thing at home in case they get any ideas!

Ahah, the thermal shock idea. Same family as AmbientNoise’s post #11…

I remember these shops, last of them disappeared probably 20 years ago now, not wishing to open O/T reminiscence direction
