Default Ferrite Rod Antenna Question?

Below is a pic of the relevant part of a Grundig 5050W circuit (and a link to a higher resolution of the schematic it came from)

So far as I can make out the ferrite antenna (BV2017) can only be switched in for the lower part of the MW band, MW1 (approx. 0.5 to 1MHz) and not the upper part of the band, MWII (approx. 1 to 1.6MHz)

Anyone know why the manufacture would have chosen the ferrite rod antenna option for MW1 only?

Default Re: Ferrite Rod Antenna Question?

Just a random guess based on the notion that if it had worked well from 1MHz up using the ferrite rod, they would certainly have used it. Which makes me wonder if the type of ferrite they had available at the time that this radio was made was not good for the application above 1Mhz. Though many latter day ferrite rods with modern materials can work to well beyond 10Mhz.

Yes, that would be a good reason, and the only one I can think of so far.
