Where did I get this crystal holder and why?
Hi all,i just discovered this item in a box of assorted RF items i have, the details below are whats written on the unit.Sorry about pic clarity...my dslr is in for a service.
Navy Type CRV-40062 Crystal Holder For Model 7BS-4 Transmitter Serial -5600 Cut - v Total Dev (cant read that) Channel Freq - 72.100 Cal Temp - 25 c Navy Dept Bureau of Ships by Radio corporation of America Contractor-General Electric The unit has an anti tamper wire and seal in place and unbroken. Sounds as though its out of a Collins though Bendix is another transmitter.

Looks like a standard FT243 crystal, except for the anti tamper wire.

Hi,definately not a FT243 type as the pins on this are about an inch apart...on a FT243 there 1/2" apart.

Re: Where did i get this crystal holder and why?
I used to have some of these but they were in blue enamel, not red. The pin spacing is the "10X" size and they were used in WW2 US Navy transmitters. There are some good websites about that kind of equipment - try looking up the 7BS-4 via Google.
Not worth anything really, maybe a pound to a collector. |

Re: Where did i get this crystal holder and why?
I suspect that "Channel Freq - 72.100" refers to the final O/P freq. of the transmitter when this crystal was inserted. Therefore, "72.100" will not be the actual crystal freq. The first thing I would do is to try to determine the actual freq. of the crystal - this, if anything - will go a long way to determining just what it is actually worth.

Isn't this the size that the B40 uses? I haven't got mine any more to check

Pin spacing for B40 crystals appears to be just under 3/4".
