Hi All,
I'd like to restore a 405 line TV. I'm new to TV restoration but I'd love to see a 405 line picture again. Also any advice on standards converters would be much apreciated. Cheers, Ian G1DRP |

HI Ian
I have two Aurora converters and I can vouch that they are first class. To save you going hunting look at http://converter.home.comcast.net/ I have attached a photograph to show you the result cheers Peter |

Hi Ian
Hi Ian yes you can , they have a built in image ( testcard) but they turn 625 video and audio ( i e from a scart output ) into live 405 if you read the instructions on line it will tell you all about them and the builder( Darryl) is "tubesrule" on here hope this is helpful Peter |

I think Darryl should be in the Queen's Honours List for Services to Vintage Television...an honourary title of course.

Looks excellent! I've been looking at the website. I'll get an old 405 telly and get that going first, I think.

How will you know if the set is working without a signal source?

It has never been easier to supply a 405 signal to an old telly now that we have the Aurora, but many notable designs have come and gone in recent years for which we are all grateful. I understand there are now Auroras that have an external channel selector which makes it easier still.

Some three years ago I did attempt to construct a simple line dropping converter for my Pye CTV. I had some bit and pieces left over from that standards converter I constucted way back in the 80s and early 90s.
The colour sub-carrier frequency was to be the correct figure of 2.6578125Mhz (525 X 10,125/2) The video source was to be the RGB drives from a DVD or Freeview box. Anyway, the thing did not work all that well and the project was abandoned. If I can find some time I might restart the project again. It'll be a lot more fun that repairing modern stuff. DFWB |

I would love to see some photos of the set(s) you are using with the Aurora .. I'm currently watching a satelite broadcast on a little Sony TV9-90UB in 405-line mode and the clarity of the pictures, especially the graphics, proves the quality of the Aurora .. I'm amazed at how clear and sharp the picture is! Shame about the absence of black-level clamping on these sets
