1962 - 1965 circa Creda 4 bar electric fire
This is a bit of a puzzle , cannot find anything about this heater, where do I get a copy picture of this from, from the sales years 1962 to 1965 and also the sales brochure? Also are the elements still available and from where .?
Where were these sold from, High Street stores if so what were the names? Or the electric showrooms in the early / mid 60s? ie the LEB. I believe it is still in working order but the original mains flex of the rubbery type may well have degraded, the outer cotton sheath has seen better days. Thank you |

Creda centrepiece, I believe. If the silica tubes are undamaged, it's easy to fit a 750 W element spiral into them - if you can find a source. eBay is a possibility for these.
Leon. I seem to remember that a highly irritating feature of this heater was that the lights came on as soon as it was connected to the mains. I fitted an extra switch. |

Yes That's the model, ah yes I had forgotten it had back light , were they long and pointed?
It was last used in about the mid 70's and has been stuffed away in the spare room covered up and not plugged in. As I remember it was quite a hot fire to sit in front of. The silica tubes are all OK. |

The back lights were orange and slimmer than standard lamps which would not fit. I think candle lamps did fit, so you would be right about the pointed shape. They had standard BC caps.

Yes - two red bulbs. I removed one initially then both.
Last used ours on the 15th of last month when had to spend the night in living room (sickness). Replaced the worn cable with heat-resistant modern stuff. All my old pics attached. Can't remember where we bought it but was in 1963 in Sunderland.

Thanks for the info peopl , wonder if there's a hoard of NOS somewhere.
As I remember it really kicks out the heat when on 4 bars. I'd love to see this working again. 1963 eh and still going! |
