Default Wyndsor vanguard idler wheel

Hi, I have just bought the machine and for whatever reason the idler wheel has turned into a glue like substance, it is rubber on die cast, does anyone know where I may be able to get one or get it refurbished? Thanks in advance.

If this is the one based on the Magnavox 363 deck watch out for the condition of the rubber on the lower section of the motor pulley.

Paul

I think the Vanguard used the Collaro transcription deck, could be wrong.

Update, roller eventually arrived, fitted it but still have no drive! aargh! I cant find a diagram anywhere but i suspect the main wheel on the motor spindle is at fault, I really want this working as i have a load of reel tapes to listen to, i dont suppose anyone has one of these for spares?

Funnily enough, and I hope you're still reading this thread, I have a Wyndsor Vanguard reel to reel tape deck I want to pass on if you're still interested. It was working when I last used it 20-30 years ago

The idler wheel is in the same state as yours and the whole thing is messy, missing its lid and the screws to hold a plastic cover in place.

But I plugged it in, the motor turns with a bit of encouragement (it looks like there's some rubber goo on the spindle) and the various rubber wheels engage at what seem to be the right times and the tape spindles go round if you hold the melted wheel in place. With the main wheel melted like yours, I can't play a tape on it, but if I plug in a speaker and turn up the playback gain there's a hum so something's still working in the electronics.

I don't want anything for it, I'd just be happy to see it go to a good home for spares or whatever you can use it for.

I'm in west Norfolk but will be near Solihull, not too far from Wolverhampton, on the morning of the 24th Dec so I could bring it with me if you'd like it.

Please PM me if interested.

Yet Another Paul.
