Personal souvenir OC but a catalogue might be an investment if you've got one

I've got my 2004-5 catalogue which I'm keeping, I used to have a 1995-6 one which I short-sightedly threw away!

Cardiff (Newport Road) appeared to be closed when I passed earlier today. Posters gone from windows and security shutters down. There was a notice on the door but I didn't feel inclined to get off the bus, go and read it and wait for the next one.

I'll be hanging on to my 2005-6 catalogue for posterity.

I shall be keeping my Maplin shopping basket as a souvenir. They allowed me to keep it after the over charging episode the other day.

Mine closed yesterday. I didn't go there myself, but was told they were selling £10 "lucky dip" bags. Based on what they had left on Saturday I cant see them being too lucky. Looking online it seems many have now closed, possibly all

Probably easier to just mention those that are still open now. Probably not many left.

In the closed Chester Branch they have a note to say Shrewsbury is the closest Maplin so I'm guessing Shrewsbury Maplin is still open. Presumably that is where all the unsold stock from Chester is going.

The Folkestone store too is no more since the weekend. Here's my memorial piece, no doubt a collectable in 50 years!

I think Scotland's lost all its component shops now, though there is an RS trade counter in Glasgow.

Even the last amateur radio shop got taken over a few years ago and was axed about a year ago. I suppose the main amateur radio event was the SARCON rally at Braehead a few weeks ago. There wasn't a single stand representing any of the big-3 brands. People are disinclined to lay out that sort of money based on only an advert in Radcom and a website.

THe end of an era.

I went past the branch in Newcastle last week and I think it was closed for good.

When I was last in Cramlington I'm sure they said that the unsold stock would be moved to Derby.

I'm surprised at that - Shrewsbury looked on the point of closing a couple of weeks ago. Maybe they've had a reprieve.

Newport Isle of Wight branch on Monday had a last 3 days notice. However inside was stripped bare except for one table with three staff sitting round it. They told me everything had been sold but they still had to stay there for three days! None of them had jobs to go to.

Cambridge Beehive has three days to go.

Lots of ready made cables, shelving and bargain bags of batteries and holders.

I'm so old I remember the excitement when Maplin first came to Cambridge

Gee's is still open on Mill Road but not when we go to the ethnic shops on a Sunday so I don't know what they sell these days

Car park right opposite

I called in at the Chesterfield store today. They are on there last three days.
There were £10 bags of cheap phono plugs and BNC plugs.
I settled for a couple of clover leaf mains leads to replace those un-fused ones that come with cheap Chinese gadgets. They were a quid each.
The rest of the store looked pretty bare with staff sweeping the floor in the parts of the store that are now empty.

Northampton branch is now closed. Made me rather sad going past on the bus to work, looking at the shutters.

What a splendid shop, I do remember old Mrs Gee saying INxxxx (eye en) rather than 1Nxxxx (one en). Must be 30 odd years ago since I visited. My house was less than a hundred yards away, I could just pop in for a resistor by asking, for example, a 1/4W 10K one, a swift 360 degree turn round by a member of staff (the family) and it was there.
