Default What type of connector is this?

For size info - the shell is the same as a 9 pin D connector. Does anyone
know what type of connector this is and its mating connector and where to buy
it from.

Thanks.

It`s what is generally known as an MRAC connector - they are available with varying numbers of pins, the 34 pin version was a V35 data standard if I remember correctly.

The Smiths version was known as the HYPERTAC, I think they were MRAC compatible.

The BBC used Hypertacs for a number of purposes including the umbilical connector for tape machines.

We used to use them at Plessey for some of the military equipment we were developing in the 1970's. I'm afraid I don't have any in my junk box.

Looking at their web site, it appears to be the seven-pin version of the BA range.

It's not _quite_ a MRAC connector; I forget its proper designation but do remember coming across them on the analog-side of side-scan-SONAR gear being used by Scottish marine-biologists in the 1980s.

Back then the connectors were horribly expensive if bought from 'official' sources - with a suitable bottle-of-single-Malt-whisky bribe I could be encouraged to smuggle a couple into my next order.

From memory they were available from "Rendar".

Yes, I think you're right. The MRAC has screws to hold the plug/socket together (your cables always tangle round them). That variant is just a push-fit and I can't remember the official name either - I would have to look it up. Marconi used MRAC extensively on their broadcast kit with that push-fit type being used on the camera viewfinder connections. If push comes to shove I can look it up in one of the manuals.

Best regards,

Looking it up, I've found for the 7 way it says:

MRE/A 7P
EM Ltd.

Sorry, don't know anymore!
Needs some more digging . . .

Best regards,

Googling the embossed type number on the connector as best as I can see leads to Winchester: https://www.google.com/search?source...w=1280&bih=864

Some for sale on a well-known site as MRE/A 7P

The 'Winchester' is compatible, but different - at least the colour.
I've come across that one on EMI kit.

That's the significant link - "EM" - Electro Methods (or Electronic Methods).

https://rochesteravionicarchives.co....ro-methods-ltd

Became "Pye Connectors" in the 60s.

Electro Methods - that's the name!
Well done.

I just couldn't bring it to mind . . .

Be careful with the one you have, those bent pins tend to snap off very easily when straightened, of course this wasn't a problem at work as we had replacements, just a bit time consuming to unsolder the 35 way edge connector version.
The older units had the Smiths branding, later ones & replacements were branded Hypertac, the plastic moulding was different too but still compatible.

Looks like a variant on an Amphenol original.

Also done with big power pins or mini coax connectors embedded in them.
