Bush DAC90A - dial pointer colour? If any...?!
Just restoring one of the above.
I'm intending to respray the dial lamp 'reflector' white, and may replace the aged and yellowing translucent panel. The dial pointer obviously just needs to be dark to show up, which it is as it's a bit rusty looking! However, trivial though it is, was the pointer any specific colour when new? It might just be where the rust has rubbed, but I think I can detect a faint red bit on the flat top part...? |

That's unusual I don't think I have ever come across a DAC90A that had a rusty pointer like that, even when they were totally corroded wrecks.
Was the dial glass missing? Cheers Mike T

Not at all - it's all in nice condition just the pointer is devoid of colour and very slightly surface corroded.

EDIT: I suspect Lada colours may be almost as old as the radio - I suppose any near cream will do... Last edited by 6SN7WGTB; 17th Jan 2022 at 9:22 pm. |

Should the engraved lettering on the knobs be highlighted in cream too?

Have had good results using tissue or a cloth to wipe paint over the lettering, then wipe off excess. May take a few runs over to build up but brings good results.

The original red pointer colour may have faded.
Red paint seems to be more vulnerable than other colours to 'bleaching' in sunlight. |

I picked out the old paint with soap/water/tooth brush/cocktail stick and repainted with Tipex fluid. No need to be careful cos once it dries rub off the unwanted places with furniture polish and a cloth.

Re: Bush DAC90A - dial pointer colour? If any...?!
It was a bit fiddly.
I cleaned them with a nailbrush as years of grime was in the engraving. On the Tone knob it showed signs of a more gold-coloured paint, so I opted for a brass enamel from the modelling box. Nothing that won't tidy up with a buff and shine once hardened. |
