Default PYE P76F Capacitor

Regards C38 and C39 32uF + 32uF dual capacitor (Manufacturer's sheet). Is it best to replace with another dual capacitor or two individual capacitors? If two individual capacitors where should they be connected?

Thanks.

Electrically either will work, use the one that’s easiest to fit if you are unsure how to connect individual ones.
Dual capacitor at this location, confirm physical size is suitable before ordering.

The metal can on a dual electrolytic is usually common negative. It's usually earthed by the metal clip that secures it to chassis. That means the two tags are positive. With that knowledge, you can see that two single electrolytics will have the negative ends connected together leaving the two positives to connect into the circuit. The negative ends will connect to a suitable (probably nearest) chassis point.

You can leave the old electrolytic in circuit but disconnected to preserve upper chassis appearance if you want to otherwise you have a hole in the chassis but this is up to you of course.

The most straightforward option would be the dual can one from Cricklewood at the link which Frank gave in post #2.

The option in post #3 would enable you to leave the can in place, disconnect the connection and fit two single radial lead electrolytics under the chassis.

For example:

From Crickewood at £2.70 each inc VAT plus post:

450V 47 uF radial from Cricklewood, £2.70 each, plus post:

https://www.cricklewoodelectronics.c...hoC7ycQAvD_BwE

Or from Farnell, at £2.00 each inc VAT, plus post:

https://uk.farnell.com/rubycon/450px...oss_price=true

The least straightforward option if originality is a key consideration, would be to re-stuff the original can. The capacitors at the above link would fit inside the can. Quite a lot of work, and little saving in cost. It becomes more relevant when there is little space beneath the chassis to accommodate two separate ones, but that doesn't apply to the Pye P76F.

There are lots of threads on the forum where members have re-stuffed the old can.

Hope that helps.

Good luck with the restoration.

Thanks for the prompt replies. Thinking of going with the Cricklewood parts. I have quite a few capacitors which are looking very stressed

2 more points
Trying to source 1.6k 4 watt resistor. Plenty of 1.5k
Any suggestions
Second point should 2 core mains cable be replaced with 3 core.

1.5k should work just fine, or a couple of 820R 2W in series or 3.3k 2W in parallel.

The set has an isolating transformer and shows Earth may be connected to the chassis so 3-core cable could be used. As to whether- just down to choice really.
