Hi I just spotted a Dynatron L78 turntable/radio set and the seller is looking for €450 he states that it has no problems, i would like to know if it is worth the asking price, it does look nice with the Lenco deck (see Photos)

It's not a "Dynatron L78". I think you mean it has a Goldring GL78 turntable unit. Is the anti-skate weight still there on the tone arm? Are both amplification channels still working - one often fails on these? Does it come with it's matching speakers? I would not spend anywhere near to this kind of money without auditioning it first. For 450 Euro you can buy an excellent, brand new, fully warranted seperates system - and which will sound better.

I cant see if the turntable has the word 'Dynatron' printed on it, if it has it might detract from its value.

These Goldrings are quite sought after though usually in the original cabinet.

One Achilles heel with them is the bearings on the pick up arm, if they are the original, they will need replacing. Dont use cheap ones, use the ones by Thakker they sell for around €25.

The rest of the electronics and the speakers are mediocre. The speakers could be suffering from the cones falling to bits.

I certainly wouldn't pay that asking price unless it was fully serviced and came with a 1 year guarantee. Even then I think €350 tops.
